Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:
- Describe the pathophysiology of respiratory failure leading to mechanical ventilation is severe COVID19.
- Identify the indications for mechanical ventilation as well as the indication for ECMO.
- Explain the most common adverse events associated with invasive mechanical ventilation and ECMO.
- Summarize the key management principles used by the interprofessional team that are essential while caring for mechanically ventilated COVID-19 patients with or without ECMO.
