Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:
Identify the clinical signs and symptoms indicative of organophosphate toxicity, including manifestations of cholinergic toxidromes, such as miosis, diaphoresis, and bronchorrhea.
Assess the severity of organophosphate toxicity using clinical scoring systems, such as the Peradeniya Organophosphorus Poisoning (POP) scale, to guide treatment decisions and predict prognosis.
Select the appropriate dosage and administration route for atropine and pralidoxime based on the patient's age, weight, and clinical presentation.
Collaborate with an interdisciplinary healthcare team, including emergency medicine physicians, intensivists, and toxicologists, for cases of severe organophosphate toxicity to ensure that patients receive timely and appropriate care in an intensive care setting.
