Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:
Identify the signs and symptoms of serotonin syndrome in patients presenting with altered mental status, neuromuscular hyperactivity, and autonomic instability.
Apply the Hunter Toxicity Criteria Decision Rules and determine how they assist in diagnosing serotonin syndrome.
Differentiate serotonin syndrome from other toxicities with similar presentations, such as neuroleptic malignant syndrome, through comprehensive clinical assessment and history-taking.
Collaborate with pharmacists, toxicologists, and other specialists to optimize medication management and supportive care for patients with serotonin syndrome.
