Activity Description

Leiomyosarcoma is an aggressive tumor of smooth muscle origin and one of the most common subtypes of sarcoma. The retroperitoneum and uterus are most commonly involved, and less often, the extremities and trunk. A core needle biopsy is typically required for diagnosis. Treatment depends on the size, grade, and location of the lesion, as well as patient-related factors such as age and the ability to tolerate aggressive therapy. Surgery is the cornerstone of curative therapy, with radiation and chemotherapy being important adjuncts.

This activity describes the epidemiology, genetics, clinical presentation, and management of leiomyosarcoma, emphasizing the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration in diagnosing and managing leiomyosarcoma to improve patient outcomes.

.
