Activity Description

Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) is an inherited disease primarily manifesting with migraines and premature small vessel ischemic disease. Characteristic magnetic resonance imaging findings usually emerge by age 30, aiding diagnosis via genetic testing or skin biopsy. With no disease-modifying therapies, treatment focuses on cardiovascular risk reduction, with caution in antiplatelet agent use due to bleeding tendencies. Typically, disability arises by age 58.

Participants receive a comprehensive overview of CADASIL, including its genetic basis, pathophysiology, and clinical manifestations. The course covers the latest advancements in diagnostic techniques, such as genetic testing and skin biopsy interpretation, enabling clinicians to accurately identify and confirm CADASIL cases. Additionally, learners explore evidence-based treatment strategies tailored to individual patient needs, with a focus on minimizing cardiovascular risk factors and optimizing symptomatic management.
