Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:
Identify the clinical manifestations and risk factors associated with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), including family history, physical exam findings, and diagnostic test results.
Select appropriate screening tools and protocols to identify individuals at risk for HCM, including genetic testing for sarcomere gene mutations and echocardiography for structural abnormalities.
Implement evidence-based management strategies for patients diagnosed with HCM, including pharmacologic interventions, implantable cardioverter-defibrillator placement, and surgical options when indicated.
Communicate with patients and their families about the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment options for HCM to ensure understanding and shared decision-making.
