Activity Description

The term alopecia means hair loss regardless of the cause. It is not exclusive to the scalp; it can be anywhere in the body. Many therapies are available for the treatment of alopecia, including topical, systemic, and injectable modalities. This activity outlines the etiology, evaluation, and management of alopecia and highlights the role of the interprofessional team in providing the optimal management for patients with this condition.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:

  • Outline the definition and various types of alopecia.
  • Discuss the pathophysiology and workup of alopecia.
  • Discuss the major treatment modalities tailored to the underlying etiology.
  • Explain the importance of collaboration and communication among the interprofessional team to optimize management of alopecia by ensuring the most suitable treatment according to the underlying etiology.
