This activity reviews the cesarean section, and it highlights ways in which an interprofessional care team can impact the health of women and their newborns. The cesarean section is the most common surgery performed in the United States, with over a million cesarean deliveries performed every year. Decisions made during a cesarean section can affect women and their families for the entirety of their lives. This activity reviews not only the indications and complications of a cesarean section but also evidence-based preoperative and intraoperative care. After this activity, the reader will hopefully have gained insights into how to best care for patients experiencing this incredible procedure.
